July 3, 2008 (Thursday): Defy the default!

For those of you still battling to configure your Japanese broadband router, or still using the default setting, July TPC presentation will unravel the mystery of that Japanese menu!  The presentation will include configuring and using a Torrent client for p2p file sharing.  Since the default setting of both Broadband router and Torrent software are not optimized for security the presentation will focus on correcting this oversight.  To further enhance security while Internet browsing this month’s presenter, Terry McKenna, will also introduce Open DNS.  Open DNS is a free DNS service designed to provide vetted browsing and can be used as an alternative to your ISP’s DNS.

This meeting is a must for those of you still using default settings and want information on safe Web browsing!  The presentation will point you where to click and such as opposed to being a technical in-depth study.  Beginners will not be overwhelmed and intermediate level user will likely be surprised by how insecure default settings are!
