This issue of the Algorithmica Japonica, November 2001, is dedicated to the memory of Roger Boisvert. The members of the Tokyo PC Users Group wish to express their heartfelt condolences to Roger's family, friends, and all those with whom he had contact. All of our lives have been diminished by his loss.

Roger Boisvert 1951 -- 2001

Roger Boisvert, one of the earliest members of the Tokyo PC Users Group and one of its most steadfast supporters, was killed on Sunday, September 30, In Los Angeles. He served in the past as President of the TPC, and contributed unstintingly of time and resources to the group, and to many of its past and present individual members. Roger will be remembered by a host of people whose lives he touched, for his humor, his intelligence, his dedication to hard work, but most especially his exceptional kindness and consideration. Technologist, entrepreneur, mountaineer, IT professional, but most of all caring individual always willing--even eager--to help anyone in need: Roger will be sorely missed, but will remain in the memories of us all.

I first met Roger shortly after I joined the TPC, and he was one of the first to make me feel welcome. We spoke many times and exchanged countless messages, first on the TPC's BBS and later by email. He gave me valuable advice and help on numerous occasions, and even when he was clearly busy with something else, he never failed to give of his time and expertise patiently and graciously. Knowing Roger and seeing the example he set was a major factor in my decision to try to give something back to the TPC, by working as the newsletter editor and now also as the president. I will miss him, and so will the TPC. Thanks for all the help, Roger, and for the example, and for the encouragement. Rest in Peace. -- Mike Lloret
